This way of performance is an attempt to revive the old renaissance tradition of which the most famous representative was Francesco Petrarca. The famous “Cantore al liuto” would accompany himself to his own poetry. Today this type of performance is on one hand an absolute rarity and on the other helps to unite the vocal and instrumental part. It is also hard to imagine that the famous English lutenist John Dowland being both a composer, lutenist and a skillful singer did not perform his songs on his own. Definitely it would go in line with the spirit of the age where possessing various skills was held in such high esteem. Mateusz Ławniczak is an open minded musician proving that early music can be played in an original way whilst paying attention to the values of traditional performance. The manner of singing is a conscious choice which to some extent embodies the view of John Potter, the author of Tenor: History of a Voice, who claims that the pre-romantic way of singing was more focused on text delivery and individuality of sound then on ideal reproduction of a voice type. Mateusz Ławniczak’s interpretations are on one hand an outcome of historical knowledge and text analysis and on the other a result of individual approach free from cliches. The musician’s main characteristic is technical skillfulness in very often difficult accompaniments and an exceptional talent for expression. The artist’s creative endeavours are supported by a professional classical instrument training and a deep interest in the culture of renaissance England cultivated during studies at the Wrocław English Philology Department. The result is a unique project acclaimed by specialists. Mateusz Ławniczak’s career started in 2016 with the performance at the International Tytuvenai Festival in Lithuania. The second show came very soon and it was again Lithuania but this time the concert was held at M.K. Ciurlionis house in Vilnius and the artist has been re-invited there since then. The year 2017 was marked by two important shows - one within Maj z Muzyką Dawną (Poland) and the second within Viljandi Early Music Festival (Estonia). Also in 2017 Mateusz Ławniczak became the laureate of the prestigious Gdansk Shakespeare Festival (Poland) and since then keeps cooperating with the theatre. The musician is being invited by National TV and Radio of which the most outstanding is a performance for the Polish National Radio 2 - the prestigious national channel devoted strictly to classical music. The artist had a pleasure to perform two recitals at Polish Guitar Academy (Poland) in 2018 - the festival organised by the famous guitarist Łukasz Kuropaczewski - and to perform within Guitar Week in Postojna 2019 (Slovenia) along with such artists as Andrea de Vitis or David Pavlovits. At the moment the Ławniczak is preparing for concerts at Wiosenne Koncerty Gitarowe Festival 2020 (Poland), Mikołaj z Radomia Early Music Festival 2020 (Poland), Kłodzko Guitar Festival 2020 (Poland) and for a concert at one of the most prestigious concert halls in Poland - The Great Hall at The Warsaw Royal Castle. Mateusz Lawniczak is a graduate of Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław in the guitar class of prof. Piotr Zaleski and dr Waldemar Gromolak. He is also a longtime member of Jacaras - a unique guitar ensemble founded by Prof Piotr Zaleski which specialises in the interpretations of spanish baroque guitar music. Jacaras thanks to its original formula and constant creative search have built a very stable position on classical guitar scene performing at the majority of guitar festivals in Poland and receiving regular invitations to festivals abroad. In 2018 for the fourth time Jacaras had the opportunity to give a series of concerts in Fuerteventura (Canary Islands) within a festival organised by Blas Sanchez Foundation. Quotes: “Mateusz Ławniczak’s song project is a perfect combination of vocal talent, instrumental virtuosity and a deep interest in the culture of Renaissance England…” - Anton Birula (Lute Duo) “Absolute phenomenon - both in Poland and worldwide…” - Polish Guitar Academy “This beautiful tale built of words, singing and lute playing with which Mateusz Ławniczak presented us will remain in our memory and hearts for long.” - Prof. Alina Madry - Adam Mickiewicz University “Mateusz Ławniczak’s magical performance transfers the audience to the other world…” - Gdansk Shakespeare Festival “Mateusz Ławniczak would announce the compositions in such a way that, although mostly in Old English, they were understandable for both the layman and the..
