Piano Concerto No. 23 KV 488, in A major Allegro - 00:32 Adagio - 12:03 Allegro assai - 19:15 The Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major KV 488 was finished, according to Mozart's own catalogue, on March 2, 1786, two months prior to the premiere of his opera, “Le nozze di Figaro”, and some three weeks prior to the completion of his next great Piano concerto, No. 24 KV 491 in C minor. The concert was requested from Mozart for one of the customary musical evenings of the Viennese Academies, which involved the composer as both author and performer and allowed him a discreet financial support. Mozart wrote the concerto conforming the piano part for himself, being the performer himself, to this end he also composed the cadenza of the first movement that was usually left to the improvisation of the performer. The first performance was in Vienna at the Großer Redoutensaal of the Burgtheater on April 3, 1786, with Mozart on the keyboard.
