George Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue
Mit "Rhapsody in Blue" wollte George Gershwin den Amerikanern musikalisch eine eigene nationale Identität verleihen. Und mithilfe der Musik auch alle ethnischen und kulturellen Barrieren überwinden. Nicht zuletzt begründete der Komponist mit der "Rhapsody" auch seinen eigenen Weltruhm. Am 12. Februar 1924 wurde das Stück uraufgeführt."Das erste Solo in der Klarinette - das ist ein Aufruf." So beschreibt der Pianist Denis Matsuev den Beginn der "Rhapsody in Blue". Der signalhafte Aufstieg in der Klarinette fesselt die Zuhörer auf Anhieb. Bei der Uraufführung der "Rhapsody" in der New Yorker Aeolien Hall tobte das Publikum. Das Konzert vom 12. Februar 1924 schrieb Geschichte. George Gershwin hatte den Amerikanern ein Stück echte amerikanische Musik geschrieben. "Made in Italy" - LUISA MILLER in Zürich, Première 18.IV.2010

After her magnificent Bohème here in Zürich, she comes back to weep and die for another Rodolfo: Barbara Frittoli gave a very elegant Luisa, with a clear, even sound, amazing control and superb emission of the voice. She sings much in today’s Italian style, with some interpolations of slim high notes à la Mariella Devia rather than indulging in lower, chest register. To me, this deprives some passages like the cabaletta “A brani oh perfido” from their possible affect, but there is coherence in her style, so we have to take it as it is.
