Sergio Mims: Jonathon Heyward appointed Chief Conductor, North German Philharmonic
Jonathon Heyward Sergio A. Mims writes: Some exciting news about conductor Jonathon Heyward. Conductor Jonathon Heyward, has been named Chief Conductor of the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, (North German Philharmonic) in Herford Germany starting January 2021. The South Carolina born Heyward, 26, is presently assistant conductor at the Halle Orchestra in Manchester and his past engagements have included orchestras such as St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, Basel Symphony Orchestra, Prague Symphony Orchestra, Panda Wind Orchestra in Japan, the Philharmonie Zuidnederland, Orchestre National de Lille, the Orchestre national de Lorraine, Chineke! Orchestra in the UK, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. And his concerts this season included conducting along with the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra Hallé, Wüttembergisches Kammerorchester and Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa from Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, the Osaka Symphony Orchestra and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. Belgian conductor gets French orchestra
David Reiland, presently with the Luxembourg Chamber Orchestra, has been named music director of the Orchestre national de Lorraine from next season. Reiland, 37, succeeds Jacques Mercier who has held the post since 2002.

Maestro quits: Austrian flounces out of French orch
Sascha Goetzel has terminated ‘with immediate effect’ his job as principal guest conductor of the Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne, a post he has held for three years. He blames the orchestra’s administrateur général, Marc Feldman, over changes in future programming and the removal of Goetzel’s name from the orchestra’s website. A summer spat, in other words. Timpani's world premiere recording of Florent Schmitt's Le Petit elfe Ferme-l'oeil and Introït, récit et congé receives the prestigious Diapason d'Or award, along with universal critical acclaim.
Cellist Henri Demarquette, conductor Jacques Mercier and the Lorraine National Orchestra share in the honors. First recordings: Jacques Mercier and l’Orchestre national de Lorraine. From the very moment Timpani’s world premiere recording of two orchestral works by Florent Schmitt appeared earlier this year, it was clear that this was no ordinary release. The recording features the ballet Le Petit elfe Ferme-l’oeil , composed in 1923 and presented by the Paris Opéra Ballet. It’s coupled with the Introït, récit et congé , a piece composed in 1948 for the cellist André Navarra and premiered in 1951 by Navarra and conductor Paul Paray . The world premiere recording features Jacques Mercier conducting the Lorraine National Orchestra . They are joined by Henri Demarquette performing in the cello work.
