But there was a workshop on Act One last year, and David is hoping for a workshop on Act Two. He has left writing opera rather late, because he never found a subject or a librettist. He started to write one three or four times, but never got very far and unfortunately a commission for New Kent Opera didn't happen because the company folded. The new opera is called Anna and has a librettist by Roger Scruton. David was happy with last year's workshop and feels that it worked dramatically. The highest bidder will win the company coming to their chosen venue and performing Otello, the Verdi opera based on the Shakespeare play, as part of a fundraising campaign. The bids are part of a fundraising drive for a community project working with prisoners at HMP Swaleside in Eastchurch over 20 weeks to perform the story later this year.

He is the son of Sir Arthur Norrington and his brother is Humphrey Thomas Norrington. Norrington studied at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Dragon School, Oxford, Westminster School, Clare College, Cambridge and the Royal College of Music under Adrian Boult among others. Norrington played the violin, and worked as a tenor through the 1960s, and in 1962 founded the Schütz Choir (later the Schütz Choir of London). From 1969 to 1984, Norrington was music director of Kent Opera. In 1978, he founded the London Classical Players and remained their musical director until 1997.
