I have nearby, just up the District Line Tube from me, at Sloane Square, a delightful small concert room, the Cadogan Hall. They have some varied mixed classical programming, some of great quality and all worth paying attention to. It takes me just 15 minutes to get there – this contrasts with 40 to the Festival Hall, 55 to the Barbican, and 35 to Covent Garden and the Coliseum. Yesterday evening I was at a lively and enjoyable performance of Haydn’s Creation. The outstanding trio of soloists was Sophie Bevan, Robert Murray, and the veteran bass-baritone substitute David Wilson-Johnson, still going strong and excellently after more than 40 years as a distinguished singer. It was a brilliant stroke to get him as a last minute stand in.
