CutTime Productions, LLC: CutTime® Premieres New Romance for Barbara!
[…] interview recently. If you want to skip the rambling interview segments, here is the YouTube playlist featuring just the musical tracks (6) featuring Michigan Opera Theater Orchestra Concertmaster Eliot Heaton! These are now our best videos to showcase my work arranging, composing and building new pathways for classical music to belong to everyone. I remain ever grateful. Healthwise, I have been cycling strongly again this year, as well as subbing into Michigan Philharmonic and Detroit Symphony, despite some stubborn lower back issues. Requests for CutTime ensembles did not materialize this summer, so I took the time to heal, and had a breakthrough POP 10 days ago! Barring another virus surge in Michigan, I hope to produce a well-rehearsed, full concert this fall premiering FOUR new works from last year, plus the haunting, unrecorded Idyll for English horn and strings. We’ll fundraise […]

CutTime® News - 'Phantom Detroit' Premieres in November!
[…] been a few grants and donors supporting such work, and I won a Knight Foundation Arts Challenge grant for 2015, and applied for every other opportunity I found (23 so far) to hire, rehearse, update, introduce and showcase classical musicians in casual settings; winning only five. Since the April 2nd newsletter we've had a few more memorable events. The April 6 orchestration-premiere of Highland Park, MI: City of Trees by the Michigan Philharmonic was particularly hot. The annual Draylen Mason Tribute Concert in May at Detroit Public Library was again our most moving self-produced program. CutTime Simfonica played its first wedding and then rocked the Grandmont Rosedale neighborhood party (see pic at top). And last week I returned from Rochester, NY, where the Gateways Music Festival of black classical musicians and composers perform every odd year. Besides leading the orchestra bass section, I led […]

Rick Robinson: CutTime News - 'City of Trees' Premiere! Saturday, April 6
[…] about my work developing CutTime®, as well as play and contract some church orchestras in Grosse Pointe for a Bach concert and the upcoming Assumption Grotto musical mass series (April 21 & 28). As a composer, I had a premiere in Pittsburgh, PA of the orchestration of my Elegy (2009) by the Colour of Music Festival Orchestra with an old friend Leslie Dunner conducting. And this Saturday is another premiere closer to home. The Michigan Philharmonic led my Nan Washburn will premiere my orchestration of my biggest hit Highland Park, MI: City of Trees! I can't wait, because I was able to add a lot to the popular "band version." But WAIT! There's more! Also coming up is the 2nd annual Draylen Mason Tribute concert, this time at the Detroit Public Library main branch auditorium across from the DIA on Sunday, May 5 at 2pm. This promises to […]

Rick Robinson: CutTime Newsletter - Noel Night at La Palma Dec. 1, 4:30 PM
[…] A Team from Detroit, as we will again March 24 (Su) 3p to Rocky River Presbyterian. Besides a number of private bookings so far, in 2019 around Detroit, Simfonica will play a full-length public concert at Birmingham Unitarian Church on Feb. 8 (Fr) 7:30. Other related events are the orchestration premiere of my Elegy (2009) by Colour of Music Festival Orchestra in Pittsburgh (PA) on Feb. 13, and that of Highland Park, MI: City of Trees by Michigan Philharmonic in Canton (MI) Apr. 6. With the repeated failure of my efforts to work the edges of the non-profit world, I'm resigning myself to hit more commercial buttons in 2019, adding visual projections, songs, a dancer and some "purple cows." Have a great holiday season and stay tuned for surprises in the next newsletter. It's time to cut classical music loose! Yours, - Rick Robinson (Mr. […]
