That, too, on Charles's conscience, though Elenore later hints at another more secretive trauma : while in France, Charles had some kind if sexual encounter. Since Charles had been devoted to his wife Isabella (Anna Schwanewilms) and esteemed chastity, that sin might have weighed more heavily on Charles than on other men, like the less moral Francis.
