What remained was a lighthouse, a church and a small protected anchorage that served as a refuge for local shipping during storms. Its island status finally came to an end when, in 1942, the dikes of the first large reclamation project closed and Schokland became just another spot in the newly created Noord-Oost Polder. Fortunately for posterity, its unique historical value was soon recognized and it was the first Dutch location to be added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Today, the former island is a museum and a wonderful location for cultural activities, such as this Christmas Concert. Noyuri Hazama, violin, (RC) was outstandingly accurate and sensitive with her obbligato challenges in the Gloria’s “Laudamus te,”oboe d’amore players Aga Mazur (RC), Fiona Last (J), and Karlijn Oost (RC) throughout the evening, Kaci Cummings (J) natural horn and the rollicking bassoonists Neil Chen (J), and Luke Toppin (RC) in the “Quoniam,” and Mili Chang, whose traverso flute playing in the Credo’s “Benedictus” was fluid, elegant, and well, just lovely. Maxime Snaterse werd geboren in Almelo in 1996. Zij begon op negenjarige leeftijd met pianolessen. Na drie jaar pianoles te hebben gevolgd bij Lena Markov heeft ze, na ruim een jaar geen lessen te hebben gevolgd, haar studie voortgezet bij Bella Tubejeva. In 2011 heeft Maxime toelating gedaan bij de Jong Talent Klas bij het Artez Conservatorium in Zwolle waar zij toe werd gelaten en sindsdien pianolessen volgt bij Frank van der Laar. In de afgelopen jaren heeft zij onder andere meegedaan aan de Rotterdamse Pianodriedaagse (eervolle vermelding, 2008), YPF Pianoconcours (2010 en 2013) en International Piano Competition for Young Musicians (2012). Op elfjarige leeftijd won zij de eerste prijs bij Jong Muziektalent Regionaal.
