At Kings Place this month, Turkish pianist Can Çakmur celebrates the Hamamatsu Competition which he won in 2018, not to mention embarking on his 12-disc Schubert with BIS
[…] that Can was undertaking when COVID hit. He finished around 30 concerts in Japan, but the European leg of the tour had to be cancelled. The idea behind the Kings Place concert was to join forces with Noriko Ogawa, the chair of the jury, to show what the competition was about. So, Can and Noriko Ogawa to perform Beethoven's piano-four-hands arrangement of the Grosse Fugue, and Can will be joined by Benjamin Gilmore violin, Rosalind Ventris viola, Tim Posner cello to perform Mozart's Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor which has been part of the competition for a few years as the third stage involves the contestants playing chamber music. Can will be playing Schubert's Piano Sonata in B flat major D 960, a work he has not only recorded but which he played in the competition. Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective make a welcome return to the Lammermuir Festival, here Tom Poster introduces the music

Songs from my Homeland: Cowbridge Music Festival's 2022 season under artistic directors Rosalind Ventris and Joseph Fort
CowbridgeUnder artistic directors violist Rosalind Ventris and conductor Joseph Fort, the Cowbridge Music Festival returns from 16 to 25 September 2022, filling the south Wales market town with world class musicians. This year's theme is Songs from my Homeland and visitors to the festival will include soprano Natalya Romaniw, Cowbridge Music Festival Associate Artist Llŷr Williams, singer Kizzy Crawford, cellist Laura van der Heijden, pianist Tom Poster and violinist Elena Urioste, plus a rare opportunity to hear music from Afghanistan. Wagner's Die Walküre to receive its Icelandic premiere in Icelandic Opera's first Wagner opera for 20 years
[…] relatively small size of the pit in Harpa, the players of the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra will be seated on the stage. Julia Burbach directs Wagner's Die Walküre with Tal Rosner as video designer and co-director. The Iceland Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Eva Ollikainen, the orchestra’s recently appointed chief conductor and artistic director. Soprano Iréne Theorin sings Brünnhilde and having previously sung Alberich internationally, Icelandic baritone Ólafur Kjartan Sigurðarson makes his role debut as Wotan. British tenor Christopher Ventris, sings Siegmund with British soprano Claire Rutter as Sieglinde [in 2017 we caught Claire as Sieglinde at Grange Park Opera, see my review, and in the title role of Tosca with Icelandic Opera, see my review]. German mezzo-soprano Christa Mayer makes her Icelandic Opera debut as Fricka and Icelandic bass Kristinn Sigmundsson sings Hunding. The Valkyries are performed by eight singers from Iceland.
