The Opera Platform to offer more live relays during 2015/16

Launched in May 2015, The Opera Platform is a collaboration between 15 European opera houses — including The Royal Opera — and offers regular live relays of productions from around the continent. Upcoming relays include Stefan Herheim ’s production of Puccini’s La bohème from Norwegian National Opera on 12 September, and Mariusz Treliński’s staging of Thomas Adès’s Powder Her Face from La Monnaie in Brussels on 2 October. Conductor – Magnus Loddgard; Lucretia – Katjia Dragojevic, Female Chorus – Marita Selberg, Male Chorus – Brenden Gunnell, Tarquinius – Espen Langvik, Bianca – Ingeberg Kosmo, Lucia – Silvia Moi, Collatinius – Magne Fremmerlid, Julius – Yngve Andre Seberg. The Norwegian National Opera Orchestra. Story. A group of soldiers find out that during their absence their wives have been unfaithful, with the exception of Lucretia, Collatinus's wife. Tarquinius, the son of the foreign Rome ruler Tarquin, decides to visit Lucretia and then rapes her. Lucretia asks a message to be sent to Collatinus asking him to come home. The blood of a poet
[…] be. The character interplay is so dense and so interesting that we’d like to see it all; however, I missed many details until my second or third watching of the DVD. The principal singers are mostly excellent, except for a strangulated and stiffly acted Doctor/Colline. His “Vecchia zimarra, senti” is poorly sung and was as well one of the few seemingly purposeless moments in this very specific production. Vasilij Ladjuk as Maintenance Guy/Marcello and Espen Langvik as Doctor/Schaunard sing robustly and act well their fierce rivalry. Ladjuk is dark and blue-collar; Langvik is blond and distinctly upper class. The Norwegian National Opera Chorus and Children’s Chorus are superb here—the singing is splendid, and their acting of Herheim’s concept characters is committed and adds tremendously to the atmosphere of the production.
