Alessandro Deljavan is a Cliburn winner for me!
[…] imagination why Deljavan was cut–sorry to be blunt—but I know he WILL move on to a great career regardless–same for Claire Huangci because they CONNECT with listeners and bring emotional depth to the competition, defying the NORM…. It’s been further emphasized that too many Gold winners at Cliburn have not progressed to major careers, so maybe this is a good omen for Alessandro and Claire (They join the Cliburn reject circle along with Evgeni Bozhanov who is thankfully out of the competition loop, serenading appreciative audiences world-wide) *** Now for a serving of Deljavan who is uncannily a celebrated CHEF, cooking for everyone on the Cliburn set. You gotta love him. Incidentally, if anything is predictable in this competition cosmos, I’ll hedge my bets that Alessandro will land the AUDIENCE FAVORITE award (so I’m off to cast my vote!) Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino With Evgeni Bozhanov Play Music Of Debussy, Ravel, Rachmaninov, Chopin And Strauss - Past Daily Mid-Week Concert
Evgeni Bozhanov – Astonishing Originality. Click on the link here for Audio Player: [audio http://pastdaily.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/maggio-musicale-fiorentino.mp3 ] Over to Italy this week for a concert by Orchestra di Maggio Musicale Fiorentino , guest conducted by Juraj Valcuha and featuring Evgeni Bozhanov in the Rachmaninov Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and the Opus 42 Waltz by Chopin for an encore. A pretty straight-ahead concert - starting off with Debussy ‘s Prèlude à l’après-midi d’un Faune. And then the Rachmaninov and Chopin. And finishing up with a Suite from Strauss’ Die Frau ohne Schatten and ending with Ravel ‘s La Valse . It was recorded by RAI on October 26th last year. Nice concert all around. Perfect Anti-Road Rage material. Since it is Wednesday and all . . . Enjoy. More and more “piano” students are going Digital. Is it a good idea?
[…] “beginners.” There’s no reason for the training-wheels equivalent of a digital as predecessor to a real piano) One piano teacher’s website, for example, shows a row of 3 year-year olds wearing over-sized ear phones, hooked up to computer screens and attached digitals. She claims they are Mozarts in-the-making. I’ve heard that song sung so often, that it’s become a dissonant reminder of the status quo. But to inject some humor into this posting, Evgeni Bozhanov, a distinguished Bulgarian pianist who competed in the last Cliburn International Piano Competition, was quoted as being unhappy with the complimentary Steinway grand donated to his host family in Fort Worth Texas as he prepared for his first round musical appearance. Pictured at a Yamaha Clavinova practicing a warhorse Rachmaninoff piano concerto, he was the poster boy for musical sobriety, shrugging off the arrogance of effete snob pianists who might discredit him. (Would that […]
