[…] earlier at Lugano. He is a crossover composer known for his film music, especially "Il Postino", and as a result the programme was made up of that concerto as "pièce de résistance"; two old tangos played by Bacalov, in his early eighties still a fine pianist; two other Bacalov pieces, "Astoreando" (of course, in Piazzolla´s style) and the mentioned "Il Postino", with its slow melody played nicely by bandoneonist Ramiro Boero; the "Fauretango" by Eduardo Hubert, old collaborator of Argerich in her festivals; and two Piazzolla pieces: the slow and expressive "Oblivion" and the energetic and fast "Tres minutos con la realidad". Added at the last minute, the Schumann Quintet with Argerich and four first desks of the NS...but only the first movement! (odd […]

During 48 minutes a low flute with experimental figurations alternates with a choir singing Rilke and old Greek and German hymns; the result is original and related with "Prometheus", premièred last year at the Colón. Sergio Catalán (flute) and the Coro de Cámara Zahir (Diego Boero) gave a faithful account of this presentation of the Compañía Oblicua. In the First Part the Choir sang pieces by Ola Gjeilo, Gyorgy Ligeti and Eric Whitacre. For Buenos Aires Herald

[…] he has had very little experience in major roles. I don´t have empathy with his color (too soft for Verdi) but he feels deeply what he sings and is capable of modulating his voice giving light and shade to the music. The two supporting roles were well taken by Luciano Straguzzi (Leo) and especially by Cristian Carrero, a solid voice for Uldino, Attila´s adjutant. "El matrero", by Felipe Boero, dates from 1929 and has long been a typical "ópera campera". It is one of the Argentine operas most often staged (the other is Panizza´s "Aurora") but it hasn´t been seen in BA for decades now. I have seen it twice at the Colón and once in Córdoba. Now an endeavor born last year and quite worthy has brought it to the Cervantes after having been staged last year […]
