With the Orchestra of Teatro Regio di Parma he collaborated with soloists like Nikolaj Luganski, Corrado Giuffredi, Andrea Oliva, Andrea Bacchetti and singers like Leo Nucci, Vladimir Stoyanov, Fiorenza Cedolins, Desirèe Rancatore, Roberto Aronica, Roberto Scandiuzzi, Luca Salsi. In March 2012 he conducted the soprano Barbara Frittoli at the Lisinski Concert Hall of Zagabria. He collaborated in several recordings – both as clarinetist and artistic director of the Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Parma – with Sony, Unitel e Stradivarius.

I think Verdi’s writing isn’t on the highest level either so I’m not necessarily blaming Mr. Álvarez who is certainly a forthright performer if ever over-emotional in that latin tenor way we all enjoy. Which brings us to Fiorenza Cedolins as Luisa. We discover her at curtain rise about to celebrate her birthday with all the townsfolk. I don’t believe Verdi’s score mentions her age but Ms. Cedolins has been before the public for almost 20 years. She’s also reached that particular time in a soprano’s career when she’s canny enough to sing”‘at” just about anything she wants. It’s clear throughout that she has thought deeply about Norma and her command of many of its difficulties is impressive. It’s a joy to hear a native Italian sing Norma (she is one of few in the postwar era—among the others, Scotto, Anita Cerquetti, and Fiorenza Cedolins). However, one can hear Bartoli attempting to use her vivid declamation of the text to compensate for moments when she is overpowered vocally, and, too often, her very dramatically rolled r’s go way over the top.
