Chamberfest Day 4 Generation Next Dominion-Chalmers, Sunday at 7 p.m. Sunday evening’s main Chamberfest concert, Generation Next, featured a baker’s dozen of young professional musicians in a varied and pleasing program. First harpsichordist Melisande McNabney played a Scarlatti sonata and, with violinist Alex Read, two sonatas by Giovanni A. Pandolfi Mealli, an Italian composer who lived from 1630 to 1669. There is a severity to his music that today’s audiences don’t find entirely congenial, but the performances were outstanding. Cellist Arnold Choi and pianist Carson Becke performed Richard Strauss’s Cello Sonata in F. I’d heard their excellent performance of the score nine days earlier, part of Festival Pontiac Enchante. The spacious acoustics of Dominion-Chalmers suited the music better than the little recital hall at FPE, allowing the musicians to spread their wings a bit more.
