[…] is inspired and beautiful, showing the composer´s talent for the ballet in this first one, written during 1875-6. For purely practical reasons (that day my grandchildren were available and both grandparents went with them, for we believe in forming their cultural taste at an early age) I chose the third cast, with Karina Olmedo, Edgardo Trabalón and Alejandro Parente (at this stage of his career, Von Rothbart). First cast: Nadia Muzyca, Juan Pablo Ledo, Dalmiro Astesiano; second cast: Ayelén Sánchez, Federico Fernández, Alejo Cano Maldonado. The general impression was positive. […] a different production, the one we saw now: Pier Luigi Samaritani, stage design; costumes, Roberta Guidi di Bagno. Two splendid couples did Tatiana and Onieguin: Alessandra Ferri and Maximiliano Guerra, Silvia Bazilis and Rául Candal (their goodbuye to the stage). Anyway, this year the Guerra "Nutcracker" had five sold-out performances with three casts; the main couple was successively Carla Vincelli/Federico Fernández; Nadia Muzyca/Juan Pablo Ledo; and the one I saw, Karina Olmedo/Edgardo Trabalón. I can safely presume that the first two were quite good, and the third one certainly was. Olmedo is a veteran but she manages through her flexible and refined art to give the image of a young girl, and her technique remains admirable. As to Trabalón, he handles his powerful physique with great energy and precise steps. So I can vouch that the current Colón Ballet has first-rate […]
