The loss of Ina Kringlebotn, by her lifelong soulmate
The Norwegian soprano Mari Eriksmoen was best friends with Ina Kringlebotn, who died this week of brain cancer, at the age of 32, leaving a four month-old baby daughter. We asked Mari to share some memories of Ina. Here is what she writes: It’s hard to imagine the future without Ina. We met when we were 14 years old. Ina was already a star where we lived in Ski, Norway. Everybody were talking about the girl with the fantastic voice. Ina was one of a kind. Spirited, energetic, bright, edgy, generous, sharp as a knife and warm as a summer day. She was well-known for her brilliant sense of humour. Rising soprano dies at 32
The opera communities in Oslo and Berlin have been shocked by the death of Ina Kringlebotn after what is described as ‘a period of illness’. Ina was one of the brightest talents in Norway and in much demand abroad. At the Komiche Opera in Berlin she sang Eva in Wagner’s Meistersinger directed by Andreas Homoki, and Agathe in Weber’s Freischütz directed by Calixto Bieito. Ina leaves a daughter, three months old.

[…] unlike English or German. We then took a short break for lunch and we ate at the Grieg Academy canteen. I had an interesting sandwich, I’m not quite sure what was on it but it was very tasty! The staff are ever so friendly and the students that were taking us around the building were brilliant, so helpful and made you feel really welcome. At 1 o’clock I had an open teaching session with Solevig Kringlebotn in the Prøvesalen. It was an incredible session, I performed four songs from the Haugtussa cycle, Det Syng, Veslemøy, Killingdans and Ved Gjætle Bekken.
