Still in Ring mode our correspondent Florence saw English National Opera's new production of Wagner's Das Rheingold, and Regents Opera's continuation of its Ring with Die Walküre featuring the late Keel Watson as Wotan.In the UK, we were in Manchester to talk to the Manchester Camerata and conductor Gábor Takács-Nagy, and the Stoller Hall, hear the orchestra in Mozart and catch up with the RNCM. That concert fell this year to the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Iván Fischer, in music by Jörg Widmann and Mahler, joined in the former by baritone Michael Nagy.Widmann's short song-cycle, Das heiße Herz, originally written in 2013, was orchestrated in 2018, the new version's premiere being given by Christian Gerhaher, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, and Jakub Hrůša. Autumn season at Stoller Hall: from Steven Isserlis to Mozart Made in Manchester to Azeri composer and pianist Isfar Sarabski
Stoller Hall in Manchester's Autumn season features an eclectic mix of events including cellist Steven Isserlis, making his Stoller Hall debut as part of the Manchester Chamber Concerts Society Series, the latest instalment of the Manchester Camerata's Mozart made in Manchester series, solo percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie and even the 1970s folk-rock pioneers Lindisfarne!Manchester Camerata return with conductor Gábor Takács-Nagy for their series exploring Mozart's piano concertos. With soloist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet they perform numbers 26 and 27, along with a trio of Mozart's operatic overtures, and there is a pre-concert talk by Professor Simon Keefe of the University of Sheffield.Steven Isserlis is joined by pianist Alasdair Beatson for a programme of Mendelssohn, Schumann, Moscheles and Chopin, and Italian neo-classical composer and pianist Fabrizio Paterlini will be performing a programme of his own music.
