Jan Lisiecki was only 15 when he played for royalty. Performing on Parliament Hill in Ottawa as part of the Canada Day 2011 celebrations, Lisiecki played in front of Queen Elizabeth II, who was one of 100,000 people in attendance. It was an experience Lisiecki could only describe as “daunting,” but the high-flying Calgary-born piano prodigy has now performed in more than 50 countries around the world, and signed a deal with a prestigious classical record label also at the age of 15, an admirable feat for any artist at any age. Having recently played Carnegie Hall in New York, along with nine shows in 10 days in Europe, Lisiecki, now 20, landed in northern Saskatchewan on Thursday to perform and speak at Senator Myles Venne School.
