Probably written in 1683, the earliest surviving manuscript source describes it as 'A masque for the entertainment of the king' and as such it had the requisite structure with an emphasis on dance and the participation of members of the Royal court (King Charles II's illegitimate daughter, Lady Mary Tudor, and her mother, the former actress Moll Davies). A bright spot in 2021: Garsington Opera's plans for its celebration of 10 years at Wormsley
