[…] Mendelssohn Choir in a Festival of Carols. Noel Edison leads the venerable TMC. It is at the Yorkminster Park Baptist Church on 1585 Yonge Street on December 11 7:30 pm. Tenor Ben Heppner at his CBC controls Speaking of tenors - I don't ever remember two of Canada's best known tenors, Ben Heppner and Richard Margison, appearing in Toronto in the same week. Well, it is happening! Margison is joining Marco Parisotto of the Ontario Philharmonic in Nessun Dorma, an evening of opera and song, featuring the works of Puccini, Verdi, Rossini, Ponchielli, Cilea, Leoncavallo and di Capua. Since for years 'Nessun dorma' is Margison's calling card, he is ending the concert with this aria. December 10 8 pm at Koerner Hall. http://www.ontariophil.ca/index.php?ID=1#subscript Tenor Richard Margison The Toronto Symphony Orchestra is presenting its annual Christmas Pops concert, led by Seven Reineke with soprano Ashley […]

[…] of Jeanne Lamon, on Jan. 31, Feb. 1, 2, and 3 (matinee) at the Trinity St. Paul's Centre. A specialist in the Baroque repertoire, Piau is much admired for her exquisite voice and superb coloratura. She has recorded widely for Harmonia Mundi, Naive, EMI, Erato and other labels. http://www.tafelmusik.org/ As I reported last week, American soprano Angela Meade is making her Toronto debut at Koerner Hall with the Ontario Philharmonic under the baton of Marco Parisotto. Meade is singing Four Last Songs, a cycle tailor-made for her absolutely gorgeous voice. Also on the program is Bruckner's Symphony No. 4. Too bad it conflicts directly with Tristan und Isolde opening night, but for those of you not going to the Wagner, this concert is not to be missed! http://www.ontariophil.ca/ Esprit Orchestra, a champion of new music, is presenting an interesting and eclectic program that combines Claude Vivier's Orion with Stravinsky's Rite […]

This Week in Toronto (Jan. 21 - 27)
[…] recitals this week. Of particular interest is American soprano Angela Meade making her Southern Ontario debut with the Ontario Philharmonic singing Four Last Songs. That concert is actually the following week (Tues. Jan. 29) but she makes an out-of-town appearance in, of all places, the Regent Theatre in Oshawa on Jan. 26 8 pm. Also on the program is Bruckner 4th Symphony. This program will be repeated on Jan. 29 at Koerner Hall. Marco Parisotto conducts. It's quite a coup for the Ontario Philharmonic to sign Meade for these two concerts, as there is a lot of hype surrounding her - she's billed as the "New Star Diva" on the Ontario Philharmonic website. But she's definitely got the vocal chops to deserve this billing. http://www.ontariophil.ca/ Off Centre Music Salon is presenting its German Salon on Sunday Jan. 27 2 pm at Glenn Gould Studio, in a program […]
