The performances will take place at the 4,680-seat Odeon of Herodes Atticus located at the foot of the Acropolis. […] will present a reprisal of its celebrated production of The Murderess by composer and GNO Artistic Director Giorgos Koumendakis for four performances December 3, 5, 28, and 30.The December dates will mark the production’s first performances in the GNO’s Renzo Piano-designed opera house, Stavros Niarchos Hall, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. The production--revived and reconfigured for the new opera hall--is directed by Alexandros Efklidis. Vassilis Christopoulos conducts the GNO orchestra with Canadian-Greek mezzo-soprano Mary-Ellen Nesi making her role debut as Frangoyannoù, the titular “murderess.” The production also features four choral ensembles: a male and female chorus, children’s chorus, and a polyphonic ensemble of four women.
