The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra has not had the best of years, what with shortened first and second seasons and only the briefest of seasons thereafter. The highlight of the year for the orchestra was undoubtedly their tour to Azerbaijan where they interacted internationally as they played at the Gabala Music Festival. All the Facebook posts I saw of this made it seem very exciting and reports afterwards indicated that everyone had had an excellent time. The Azerbaijan government decided that this was an opportunity for international cultural exchange and the last concert for the symphony series for the year was held on Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 November 2014 with Azerbaijani soloists and conductor bringing us an exciting programme of mostly new, exotic but very accessible music.
