Bach: St John's Passion (arr. Robert Schumann)
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) St. John's Passion, BWV 245, as arranged in 1851 by Robert Schumann (1810-1856) Veronika Winter & Elisabeth Scholl, Sopranos Gerhild Romberger, Alto, Jan Kobow, Tenor Ekkehard Abele & Clemens Heidrich, Basses Hermann Max, Das Kleine Konzert (Period Instruments) CPO 777 091-2 (2007) SACD Two Discs [Flac & Scans] You will either love or hate this CD! The Baroque purists will hate this because of the attempt by Schumann to update/ romanticize Bach and the Romantics will hate this because the music is basically baroque. The music is preformed on period instruments so the modernists will hate it but it is performed on period instruments so I love it! (Fortepiano Continuo....need I say more?)
