Soprano Marianne Fiset 20th anniversary of the FMCM – March 12-June 21 2015The celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Festival de musique de chamber de Montréal takes off this spring with the Celebrity Series, beginning in March with the Swingle Singers and continuing with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band (April 2) and the Emerson String Quartet (May 12). The Elegance Classique and JazzTD Series will take place from June 6-21. Soprano Marie-Josée Lord, spokeswoman for the festival, will perform her show Femmes, paying tribute to the great sopranos of the twentieth century. Developed by Denis Brott, the festival programming embodies a spirit of celebration, resilience and hope. 20e anniversaire du FMCM – 12 mars au 21 juin 2015Les célébrations du Festival de musique de chambre de Montréal sont lancées dès le printemps avec la série Célébrité qui commençait en mars avec les Swingle Singers et se poursuit avec le Preservation Hall Jazz Band (2 avril) et l’Emerson String Quartet (12 mai). Les séries Élégance classique et JazzTD se dérouleront du 6 au 21 juin. Porte-parole pour le festival, la soprano Marie-Josée Lord a conçu le spectacle Femmes qui rend hommage à de grandes sopranos du 20e siècle. Élaborée par Denis Brott, la programmation reflète l'esprit de la fête, mais exprime aussi la résilience et l'espoir. Tahun baru kali ini memang terasa agak berbeda, terlepas dari duka yang mendera negeri ini. Turut berbela sungkawa bagi mereka, keluarga dari korban pesawat Air Asia, ataupun sederet korban sabda alam lainnya. Suatu hal yang telah menjadi rutinitas sepertinya bagi Vienna Philharmonic untuk mengadakan konser musik klasik mereka yang legendaris di tahun baru. Sebagai anak ingusan dan aku sekarang pun masih saja ‘riweuh’ ngurus ingusku sendiri, selalu saja merasa “whooaaaa” tiap kali melihat konser musik yang satu ini. Lalu apa istimewanya? Aku mengerti jika kalian mengatakan aku agak lebay, karena memang pada dasarnya aku lebay. Tapi dikit sih. New Year’s Concert 2015 atau dalam bahasa Jerman nya Neujahrskonzert pada tahun ini diadakan di Golden Hall of the Musikverein, Vienna, Austria. Strad Heist Gets Vanity Fair Treatment
The Lipinski Stradivarius robbery crossed one more notoriety threshold this month thanks to a feature article via November issue of Vanity Fair in an article by Buzz Bissinger. According to an inside source close to the story, it is one of the most thorough accounts to date and you can access the article by picking up a print copy or online subscription. In addition to Bissinger’s article, NPR’s Daniel Hajek published a segment on 10/12/2014 that includes an interview with Frank Almond, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra concertmaster who plays the Lipinski and was the victim of a brutal attack at the hands of the robbers back in January. It’s a good listen if for no other reason than to hear the phrase “unusual Scooby-Doo-looking van” cross paths with the life of a Stradivarius violin.
