NYT OP-ED: “I’m Finally An Angry Black Man” from Author of WHY DIDN’T WE RIOT?: A Black Man in Trumpland (On-Sale: OCTOBER 6)
Issac J. Bailey (MSNBC) In his memoir, My Brother Moochie: Regaining Dignity in the Face of Crime, Poverty, and Racism in the American South (Other Press, 2018), praised by NPR’s ‘WEEKEND EDITION’ as “…Eloquently expressed…”, “…beautifully written…” by THE ECONOMIST and named, “… An elegant memoir that speaks to the inequities of the criminal justice system…” by USA TODAY, award-winning journalist, Davidson professor, Harvard Nieman Fellow, Soros Justice Fellowship awardee and CNN.com contributor Issac J. Bailey retells the story of his 9-year-old self witnessing his hero, his eldest brother Moochie, taken away in handcuffs for the murder of a white man in Bonneau, South Carolina. Souzay sings Schubert - Decca and Philips recordings
Ein Portrait - Lieder von Franz SchubertGérard Souzay, baritoneJacqueline Bonneau and Dalton Baldwin, pianoDecca/Telefunken 6.48119DT - 2 mono LPs [P] 1978Original recordings 1952, 1954LP rip: 96 kHz, 24 bit (see details below)FLAC files, scans Souzay is my favorite baritone, and his Decca recordings are definitely among my desert island discs. The later Philips recordings show continuing growth and understanding of this literature, and are almost as voluptuous. All are treasures, and I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I do. The audio chain I use to rip LPs: (1) the LPs are cleaned using a VPI H!-16 record cleaning machine, using TTVJ Vinyl-Zyme Gold cleaning fluid, (2) ripped on a Nakamichi Dragon CT self-centering turntable with integral tonearm and Ortofon cartridge, (3) processed by a Korg DS-DAC-10R (RIAA setting), (4) then recorded and edited using AudioGate 4, Adobe Audition (and rarely iZotope RX) software. “The Art of Forgery” , an article written by Simon Bonneau which appeared in Sungrammata , touches on several important ideas, one of which is the fact that people don’t buy the art. They buy its provenance. The essence or the quality is not as important as the background and origin. It is the same in music and other disciplines. I am not defending the forger. Nevertheless, his “work” makes us face this truth. http://sungrammata.com/the-art-of-forgery/ Wolfgang Beltracchi mixes pigments in his studio. A still from the documentary The Art of Forgery.
