The Sanguine Estate Music Festival will open at Ulumbarra Theatre on February 3 with performances at The Capital and the Bendigo Art Gallery on February 4. Artists to be featured at the festival include cellist Howard Penny, Lukas Hagen of teh Hagen Quartet, festival director and cellist Chris Howlett, flautist Emily Beynon, violinst Paul Wright, viola players Chris Moore and Tobias Breider, clarinet player Lloyd van't Hoff and pianist and composer Ian Munro. In Bendigo, chamber music director William Hennessy will feature alongside concertmaster Wilma Smith, soprano Sara Macliver as well as Howard Penny, Chris Howlett, Tobias Breider and Ian Munro.

These days, it feels like classical music performances fall into two categories: the quest to make newness old, and the quest to make oldness new. The Australian Haydn Ensemble falls into the latter, bringing scholarship and curiosity to well-aged and more or less well-known repertoire.
