Patricia Kopatchinskaja and the Dresden Philharmonic are performing a group of concerts including music by Stravinsky, Prokofiev Countertenor Xavier Sabata will be joining the saxophone quartet Kebyart for everything from Handel to Gershwin and behond, soprano Simone Kermes joins with Amici Veneziani, baritone Matthias Goerne and pianist Markus Hinterhäuser in Schumann. Pianist recitals include Francesco Piemontesi in Beethoven & Debussy, Igor Levitt in Mahler arranged Ronald Stevenson, Hindemith and Beethoven's Eroica Symphony arranged Liszt, Anton Meijas, and Seong-Jin Cho.Composer Sven Helbig will be presenting his radio show, Schöne Töne, live on stage.Full details from the festival's website.

We can dream: Bayreuth Baroque Festival 2021
[…] performance of Porpora's Polifemo, written in 1735 for London for Handel's rivals, the Opera of the Nobility with star castrato Farinelli playing Aci. The Bayreuth performance features as Yuriy Mynenko as Aci, Max Emanual Cencic as Ulisse, Pavel Kudinov as Polifemo and Julia Lezhneva as Galatea, conducted by George Petrou. Other events include Handel's oratorio Judas Maccabeus with Benjamin Hulett, Pavel Kudinov and Lucy Crowe and B'Rock conducted by Bart Nessens, plus recitals from Simone Kermes, Jakub Jozef Orlinski, Franco Fagioli, Dorothee Oberlinger and Magdalena del Gobbo. From Monteverdi & Cavalli to Abba: 'Rebirth' from Sonya Yoncheva, Leonardo García Alarcón and Cappella Mediterranea on Sony Classical
[…] Voix obviously shows she has a strong stylistic grounding in the music of the era. She also a real feel for the language, so that the quasi-recitative sections of the 17th century pieces are all imbued with emotion and not simply parrotted, and her English is expressively creditable. However, she does rather often use a slightly breathy intimate tone which is in danger of verging on crooning (this is an approach that the soprano Simone Kermes often takes in Baroque music). It brings the sound-world closer to modern popular song rather than HIP Baroque music, something highlighted by the inclusion at the end of the Abba song, which is completely delicious I have to admit.
