Masterpiece II (XRCD24 review)
Touching folklore music. Mario Suzuki, guitar; Masao Okada, guitar; Miyuki Fujimoto, guitar; Susumu Nishizaki, piano. Master Music XRCD24-NT021.First of all, I'm not sure why this 2017 album bears the title "Masterpiece II," unless it's because it follows an album guitarist Mario Suzuki made ten years earlier called "Masterpiece I." Certainly, there are no actual "masterpieces" or classics on the program unless the producers are engaging in a bit of hyperbole. Second, I'm not sure why the album bears the subtitle "Touching folklore music," since it appears Mr. Suzuki wrote all of the selections himself, thus negating the notion of folklore referring to traditional songs or stories handed down by people from generation to generation. I'm going to assume here that Mr. Suzuki is a folklorist the way Bob Dylan is a folk singer. None of which makes any difference in the least because this is a terrifically well recorded album of […]

Jandó enjoys being both a solo and accompanying artist, as shown by his recordings, ranging from a complete recording of the Beethoven sonatas to Schubert’s ‘Trout’ Quintet and Beethoven’s ‘Ghost’ and ‘Archduke’ piano trios. As an accompanist, Jenő Jandó has worked with Takako Nishizaki in recordings of the Beethoven, Franck, Grieg violin sonatas, the complete Schubert sonatas, and the Mozart sonatas for Naxos Records, some of which are highly ranked by the Penguin Guide to Recorded Classical Music. His style of accompaniment also shows itself in Kodály’s Sonata for Cello and Piano, as well as in a more recent recording of Dohnányi cello sonatas, in partnership with Maria Kliegel. He is known for singing while playing, and to […]

[…] of his wife’s music (8.559765 ) performed by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra . And we cannot end this thread without mentioning Klaus Heymann, the founder and chairman of Naxos who was acknowledged in the 2013 Gramophone Hall of Fame for his influence and inspiration in the classical music industry, demonstrated in part by his having achieved sales of more than 115 million CDs. A number of these have highlighted the artistry of his wife, Takako Nishizaki , the distinguished Japanese violinist. Prominent among them are her recordings of The Butterfly Lovers’ Concerto, that aptly embodies a famously enduring love duet, of which more than 3 million copies have been sold in the People’s Republic of China and throughout South-East Asia.
