Nielsen The Complete Symphonies - Ole Schmidt et al
[…] also including my rip of Douglas Bostock's set of the symphonies with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra which were recorded between 1999 & 2001 for the Danish Classico label but subsequently reissued in a number of different releases including this minimalist issue from Membran Quadromania. Bostock's series was originally issued at the same time as Michael Schonwandt's for the Danish Dacapo label and both used the then recently published critical edition of the symphonies from Wilhelm Hansen for the first time. Bostock's set generally received lukewarm reviews when first issued but re-evaluation shows them to be quite fine performances. The set also includes the alternative second movement of the Espansiva without the vocal parts. Appendices 1.
