The installation features newly commissioned pieces created by 15 of the world’s leading composers including Aneesa Folds, recently featured in the NY Times, Cibo Matto's Yuka C. Honda, National Medal of the Arts and Grammy Award winner Paquito Rivera, Pulitzer Prize winner David Lang and many more, woven together through film by documentarian Ansley Sawyer. It also includes video art featuring individual choristers reciting their own poetry during a time of incredible transformation and upheaval. Non è facile avvicinarsi alla musica classica, ancor di più all’Opera. Almeno questo è quello che molti accademici ci vorrebbero far credere. Eppure la musica è di tutti, un patrimonio dell’umanità. Un tesoro che per essere goduto pienamente andrebbe, però, presentato in modo diverso, accattivante. Quanti hanno cantato almeno una volta, sotto la doccia, l’Aria “Nessun dorma” (quella del famoso “Vincerò”), seguendo il nostro inimitabile Pavarotti? Quanti si sono commossi ascoltando la Callas intonare l’Aria “Casta Diva”? Immagino che molti di voi, a questo punto, stiano annuendo con il capo. Ma sono certo che in pochi conoscete quali storie nascondono quelle note. Con questo spirito ho pensato di raccontarvi un viaggio musicale. Un viaggio che ripercorre lo spazio di due secoli, tra il ’700 e l’’800, quando, in Italia, si assiste al picco massimo dell’Opera e dei suoi talentuosi compositori.
