Worth the candle
One of the glorious perks of my job, which is selling luxury cruises, is that on a semi-occasional basis I get to sample the wares myself—purely from an educational standpoint, mind you. So last fall when I learned that I would be on the Crystal Symphony in August for ten divine, epicurean, days in the Baltic I immediately rubbed my hands together in operatic glee over the thought of attending performances in St. Petersburg for the two nights we were there. As the date drew closer and the schedule at the Mariinsky continued to fill itself in, I was crestfallen to discover that a mere three days before I arrived the company was going on a three-week hiatus.
