Heinrich Kubitschek - baroque violin Live recorded with apogee mic & multitrack daw on iphone This is the second out of two recordings I made of this Suite. The first can be found here (http•••) The first is made using the french/south german-austrian bow of this time(the short one on the picture), along with the right hand technique of holding the bow with the thumb under the hair/frog. This was used in France and north of the alps throughout the 17th and part of 18th century. In Italy, since around 1600, the change to the nowadays common bow technique(all fingers around the bow wood) was made, and violinists started to use little longer bows. The second recording is made according to this, using the longer bow on the picture, a italian type from late 17th century. We don't know how Westhoff played and we can only guess - he traveled a lot around France and Italy, so he must have seen and heard many different violin playing styles. So this recording is kind of an experiment to decide which way to use for this music. The french bow is made after a bow from the museum in Salzburg by Hans Reiners (Berlin) The italian one is made after a bow in the possession of Tartini from the museum in Genua by Peter Richtarik (Bratislava) More about Mr. Westhoff can be found here (http•••)
