Harold Wright Goldsmith Brahms Sterling Ralph McLane Pablo Casals Rudolf Serkin Verna Boston Symphony Orchestra 1496 1972
Harold Wright, Harris Goldsmith – Brahms: Two Sonatas For Clarinet And Piano Brahms: Sonata In F Minor For Clarinet And Piano, Op. 120, No. 1 A1 I - Allegro Appassionato 7:00 A2 II - Andante Un Poco Adagio 5:08 A3 III - Allegretto Grazioso 4:08 A4 IV. Vivace 4:40 Label: Musical Heritage Society – MHS 1496 Format: Vinyl, LP, Stereo Country: US Released: 1972 Genre: Classical Style: Romantic Harold Wright, the first clarinetist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, is universally recognized as one of the finest living artists on his instrument. His patrician phrasing, silken legato and almost uncanny dynamic gradations have long been a subject of awe among cognoscenti. Only recently "The New Records” called this sterling musician "one of the supreme masters of woodwind playing.” Mr. Wright studied with Ralph McLane at the Curtis Institute of Music, and for many years has been associated with Pablo Casals in Puerto Rico and with Rudolf Serkin at the Marlboro Music Festival. He has appeared in numerous recitals and in concerts of chamber music with such groups as the Budapest, Juilliard, Galimir and Guarneri quartets. Harris Goldsmith was born and trained in New York City. He is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music where he studied piano with Robert Goldsand and the late Verna Brown. "A deep understanding of the music and good imagination” wrote the New York Times of Mr. Goldsmith’s Town Hall debut, "one could see his awareness of the details, the line and the larger elements of structure.” Of late, the London Daily Telegraph praised his "formidable technique, with an accuracy and power far above average” and the Washington Post called him "a musician with vivid ideas . . . he is not afraid to take risks which he usually brought off with success and always with excitement.”
