We are pleased to share this video from The Opera Atelier Great Opera Moments performance of April 15, 2012 at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. Marinel Cruz sings Addio del Passato. The Opera Atelier is a creative exchange space where artists hone their craft in a collegiate environment, artists at different stages of their careers collaborate, and artists and opera lovers draw inspiration from one another. The Opera Atelier provides opportunities for aspiring performers to acquire stage experience and develop their skills to enable them to pursue their artistic and personal goals. Our work, in the spirit of the Renaissance Atelier model, is comprehensive in scope and tailored to the uniqueness of each individual artist and his/her particular stage of development. Our work is conceived within an artistic and philosophical continuum of personal growth, addressing the psycho-emotional aspects of the individual through the encounter with the musical, textual, historical, psychological, body movement, and acting requirements implicit in the study of operatic roles. Please visit our website at www.theoperaatelier.com to learn about our philosophy, mission and programs. The opera was considered the crowning achievement of 17th century French music theatre and was widely recognized as Lullys greatest work. Filled with dancing, fight scenes, monsters and special effects, this truly spectacular music drama recounts the thrilling story of Perseus, son of Zeus and heroic vanquisher of the snake-haired Gorgon Medusa. More than half a century after its premiere, Louis XV chose Persée to open the new Royal Opera House at the Chateau de Versailles, an event that formed part of the celebrations for the future Louis XVIs marriage to Marie Antoinette. Recorded live at the Elgin Theatre, Toronto in April 2004, this staging is a dazzling spectacle of gods and goddesses, dancing scenes, flying machines and monsters with fight scenes and special effects inspired by designs from the original 17th century performance.
