Rossini Barber Opera Company Boston Metropolitan Opera Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Boston Symphony Orchestra
American conductor Sarah Caldwell led the New York City Opera Orchestra in this performance of Rossini's Overture to ‘The Barber of Seville’ from a production of the full opera, recorded live on November 3, 1976. Another historic conductor, Sarah Caldwell founded and led the Opera Company of Boston. She was the first female conductor to lead a production at the Metropolitan Opera in 1976 (La traviata). She also appeared with major orchestras, among them, the New York Philharmonic, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. John Reardon Verdi Opera Company Boston 1981
From a performance of the Opera Company of Boston, here is baritone John Reardon singing Iago's "Credo in un Dio crudel" from Act II of Verdi's opera "Otello". Sarah Caldwell conducts this performance from May, 1981. Sadly, the audio quality is not great, but I feel the historical significance of this performance to be worthy of its inclusion here.
