Phillip Sear plays a piano transcription by William Smallwood of this famous song. / The British pianist, organist and composer William Smallwood +••.••(...)) lived all his life in Kendal, Westmorland, and is best remembered for his immensely popular 'Smallwood's Piano Tutor'. His music still seems to attract interest today, despite being quite conventional. My thumbnail shows an illustration of an elderly couple by their fireside from vintage sheet music of Danks's song. / Played by Phillip Sear (http•••) (Email: •••@••• WhatsApp: (http•••) )

The little-known Passiontide hymn "On yonder hill of Calvary" (no. 121 in the 1200-piece edition of Sankey's "Sacred Songs and Solos"), played by Peter Tylor on the 1909 Hele pipe organ at St Mewan Church near St Austell, Cornwall (NPOR D08358), 29/03/2018. In this video, for the first time in a fresh upload, I have used Audacity to enhance the audio, applying noise reduction, equalisation and reverb (and one or two other improvements) using settings that I have arrived at in experimenting with this over the past few weeks. Having done this, I added the title and end screen photo with Movie Maker, and then used Shotcut to sync the visuals with the enhanced audio. On yonder hill of Calvary, Where Jesus bled and died for me; 'Twas there from sin He set me free, On Calvary, dark Calvary. (Chorus:) On Calvary, dark Calvary, They nailed my Lord upon the tree - And there He died in agony, On Calvary, dark Calvary. On yonder hill of Calvary Behold the world's great tragedy; The sun that awful hour did flee From Calvary, dark Calvary. (Chorus) On yonder hill of Calvary, The sinner's only hope and plea, Christ gave Himself for such as we - On Calvary, dark Calvary. (Chorus) (Words by John Ralston Clements, 1868-1946; music by Hart Pease Danks, 1834-1903)
