Interpretations of the music, dances and songs collected from Gypsies in the New Forest, Hampshire by Alice E Gillington +••.••(...)) In the period leading up to the First World War Alice Gillington, a clergyman's daughter who made her living as a poet, author and journalist, became fascinated by the Gypsies she met while out painting around Bitterne and Sholing near Southampton. She and her brother bought a pair of caravans and set up camp at Thorney Hill in the New Forest. Alice became friends with many of the Gypsies, collecting and publishing their songs, tunes and dances. The video includes excerpts from a performance at All Saints Church, Thorney Hill, Hampshire (http•••) on Saturday 4th October 2014.
