Mozart / Robert Casadesus, 1954: Piano Concerto in C Minor, K.491 - George Szell, Complete -(http•••) Twenty-nine year old Maria João Pires is soloist in this 1973 recording of Mozart's 17th piano concerto in G major, K. 453. Theodor Guschlbauer (b. 1939) conducts the Chamber Orchestra of the Gulbenkian Foundation of Lisbon. I created this video from the LP depicted above (label image at 11:00, jacket at 13:41), issued by the Musical Heritage Society (licensed from Erato), serial number MHS 4345. This recording is dated 1973; it was re-issued by MHS in 1981. 1. Allegro 2. Andante (11:43) 3. Allegretto. Presto. Finale (22:34) Last year I uploaded the third movement of this concerto; now that YouTube has eased some time restrictions I am pleased to be able to share the complete recording. Note: There is some high-pitched squeaking sounds at the start of this recording, they go away after about 25 seconds. The Library of Congress online catalog entry for this recording is available for review here: (http•••) On the reverse side of this LP: Maria João Pires: Piano Concerto No. 9 in E flat major, K. 271 ("Jeunehomme") - Rondo - (http•••) Maria João Pires (Lisboa, 23 de Julho de 1944) é uma pianista portuguesa, actualmente a residir no Brasil. Maxim's recordings have gained numerous award nominations including Gramophone Editor's Choice, ECHO, ICMA. Maxim featured as both soloist and conductor on the debut disc of composer Dobrinka Tabakova (ECM) in 2013 - a disc that reached number 2 in the UK classical charts and was shortlisted for a Grammy Award.
