Robert Tear Benjamin Britten Peter Pears Benjamin Luxon Previn Aldeburgh Festival 1969
Here is the late Welsh tenor singing Arbace's aria from act II of Mozart's "Idomeneo". This is from an Aldeburgh Festival performance in June, 1969 at the Blythburgh Church. Benjamin Britten conducts. (Sung in English). "Se il tuo duol, se il mio desio Sen volassero del pari, A ubbidirti qual son io, Saria il duol pronto a fuggir. Quali al trono sian compagni, Chi l'ambisce or veda e impari: Stia lontan, o non si lagni, Se non trova che martir." I have posted a couple arias from the same performance sung by Peter Pears in the title role. For more of Robert Tear, I recommend some wonderful clips of him singing with Benjamin Luxon (posted on my Luxon playlist) from a rare concert in London. They are amazing in the Victorian repertoire. Similar program to the "Dicky Bird and the Owl" reissue with Previn. (Thank you, mrn37!)
