Phillip Sear plays an impassioned song without words by the French composer Émile Pessard +••.••(...)). / #9 from 'Pour Passer le Temps' (To pass the time), 10 pièces pour piano (1890) / I'm sure that the Parisian composer Émile Louis Fortuné Pessard +••.••(...)) - winner of the Prix de Rome in 1866 - would wish to be remembered for his operas and church music. However, he seems to live on through one piece - ' Andalouse ', which remains popular in an arrangement (I think) for flute and piano. This piece is quite Chaminade-like in its piano writing. The dramatic introduction strikes me as strange - almost as if it is a transcription of an operatic aria. The piece is dedicated to the German prodigy pianist Clotilde Kleeberg who gained a Premier Prix at the Paris Conservatoire at age 12, and played Beethoven's 3rd piano concerto the same year with the Pasdeloup orchestra. She went on to become a protege of Hans Richter, and became noted for her Schumann interpretations. / / Played by Phillip Sear (http•••) (Email: •••@••• WhatsApp: (http•••) )
