Robert Kerns McLean Payne Schlosser Ling 2021
These remarks were part of the 2021 Technology in Psychiatry Summit, an event sponsored by the McLean Institute for Technology in Psychiatry, which took place virtually on October 27-29, 2021. Please visit (http•••) to learn more about the McLean Institute for Technology in Psychiatry./ Session Details: "Brain to Bedside – Bringing Ideas to Clinical Practice" This two-part panel will discuss the implementation process for digital tools in clinical practice. In Part 1, we discuss how to bring a proposed technology from the initial idea stage (i.e., in the investigator’s “brain”) through the grant process and into a clinical laboratory where it can be tested, refined, and validated. Drs. Rebecca Baker (NIH), Bob Jamison (BWH), and Laura Payne (McLean) will describe the grant mechanisms (traditional academic and SBIRs), how to write compelling grant proposals, and how to structure successful collaborations with industry. In Part 2, we will discuss how to implement a proven technology within the clinical ecosystem where it can help real patients in real-time (i.e., the “bedside”). Drs. Danielle Schlosser (Compass, formerly Verily), David Ahern (BWH), Bob Kerns (Yale), and Shari Ling (CMS) will discuss private-public partnerships, federal regulations, and billing codes—all of which are essential for a technology to have scalable staying power within the clinical ecosystem.
