Louis Victor Saar Saar Rheinberger Brahms Bach 1868 1889 1894 1918 1937
Phillip Sear plays a most attractive 1918 serenade by the Dutch pianist, composer and teacher Louis Victor Saar +••.••(...)). / Louis Victor Saar had a fascinating life. He studied with Rheinberger and Bussmeyer at the Munich conservatory and graduated in 1889. He then continued his studies in Vienna, Leipzig, and Berlin, including one winter with Brahms. He emigrated to the USA in 1894 and worked variously as a repetiteur, teacher at various conservatories (with early support from Dvorák), and composer and arranger. Saar wrote in many genres, but I am most familiar with his two piano arrangements of Bach pieces which, I think, had international popularity. I think it would be fascinating to trace the influence of American popular music on his compositions, the earliest of which were very Brahmsian. This piece has a peculiarly modern melodic feel, and could easily fit into the soundtrack of a 1960s film. The composer made a subsequent arrangement of this for violin and piano. / Played by Phillip Sear (http•••) (Email: •••@••• WhatsApp: (http•••) )

Gerber Johann Sebastian Bach Linke Rheinberger 1702 1731 1775 2009 2021
Bach - Heft I Edition Breitkopf 8470 Gerber was a piano student of Johann Sebastian Bach during his law studies in Leipzig. Gerber took up his position as court organist in Sondershausen in 1731 and composed mainly works for piano and organ. His Concerto II in G major is in many parts more of a trio where the melodic material sounds delayed in the hands. There are also two sections where the two hands "argue" with each other (concertare): while the left hand plays broken chords in triplets, the right hand has to cope with enormous jumps. Something that requires extremely good body control from the player. Recorded on May 19, 2021 | Christoph Bartusek on the organ (Weimbs 2009 - 26 / II / P - after Gebr. Stumm) at St. Peter / Rheinberg.
