Seeboeck Dauphin Brahms 1859 1880 1906 1907
Although this piece sounds like an excerpt from a turn of the century American operetta, it is fascinating because it was actually written by someone who had studied with Brahms in Vienna. Wilhelm Seeboeck +••.••(...)) was born there. After further study in St. Petersburg he emigrated to the USA in 1880 and worked as a pianist, composer and teacher in Chicago until his death. I am intrigued by a suggestion in this biography - (http•••) - that he wrote 32 concerti. I cannot think of any other composer born in the 19th century who was so prolific in this genre. It would be interesting to hear some of them. This piece was published in 1906, a year before the composer's early death. The partial countermelody in the tenor register perhaps betrays his Viennese origins. My thumbnail shows a detail from a 1687 painting at Versailles by Pierre Mignard of Louis of France, Grand Dauphin (son of Louis XIV and Maria Teresa of Austria), and his wife Maria Anna Victoria of Bavaria with their three sons: Louis, Petit Dauphin, Philippe (later King Felipe V of Spain) and Charles, Duke of Berry. / / Played by Phillip Sear (http•••) (Email: •••@••• WhatsApp: (http•••) )
