#rameau #baroque #opera Anacreon is a ballet act by Jean -Philippe Rameau , composed to a libretto by Louis de Cahusac. The piece was premiered in Fontainebleau onOctober 23, 1754. It should not be confused with Anacreon , another ballet act with the same title and premiered in 1757 to a libretto by Gentil-Bernard , whose plot is different and which was added as a third entry to Les Surprises de l'amour . Both evoke Anacreon , a Greek lyric poet whose work is mainly devoted to love poetry and banquet poetry. Plot Summary: Chloe and Bathylle fall in love unbeknownst to the old poet Anacreon who raised them both. He prepares a party and announces that he is going to unite with Chloé: spite of the two lovers, but Anacreon unites them at the end of the party. The action takes place in 6 scenes, the last presenting the final rejoicings accompanied by numerous dances and joyful tunes. In addition to the three main characters (Anacréon, Chloé and Bathylle), the work stages for the dances, young Théoniens and Théoniennes, the satyr Silenus , bacchantes and égipans. #rameau #baroque #opera
