Meyer was a remarkable artist who was a key figure in the creation of new music in Paris in the early 20th century: Satie's favourite pianist, she was coached by Debussy on how to play his Preludes and played with Ravel, premiered works by Les Six, and recorded with Milhaud and Poulenc. She was as natural in her approach to 18th century works as she was in her delivery of the latest compositions penned by her friends and colleagues: in the late 1940s she recorded the most substantial set of Scarlatti Sonatas at the time, and made the world premiere recording of Rameau's complete keyboard music in 1953 - and her 1954 Ravel cycle won a Grand Prix du Disque. Absent from the catalogue for a quarter century from her premature death in 1958 until the 1980s, Meyer has finally earned a posthumous international reputation as one of the finest pianists to have recorded, with a studio output totalling the equivalent of 17 CDs. A handful of broadcast recordings of the pianist were issued by the Tahra label on some now out-of-print sets, among them these Swiss radio broadcasts made at two sessions in 1950 and 1955. With the exception of the two Chabrier pieces, all of the works presented here are compositions she didn't record commercially. As always, Meyer plays with exquisite clarity of texture, supple phrasing, rhythmic vitality, and beautiful tonal colours. Engineer Charles Eddi did some extensive restoration on the earlier recordings and we owe him a debt of gratitude for his work on making these performances listenable.
