Johann Gottlob Töpfer Beethoven Bellows Dam 1791 1832 1870
Johann Gottlob Töpfer +••.••(...)): Orgel-Sonate für drei Manuale und Pedal [d-Moll] I. Allegro maestoso II. Andante III. Finale. Allegro vivace I would play this Sonata if I should demonstrate Ludwig van Beethoven's influence to the organ music. The first mouvement is a virtuos master composition in the style of Classicism. Töpfer composed it as a Concert-Fantasia and played it "... vorzüglich bei Orgelrevisionen ... und zwar gleichsam als Probestein für die Wirkung und Amsprache der neuen Orgeln ...". The four-part pedal-chord checks as well as the other powerful chords the quality of the bellows, and the fast figurations check the tracker action and the exact attack of the pipes. Töpfer augmented this Fantasia to a Sonata in the same style. The Finale remembers to Ludwig van Beethoven's piano-Sonatas Op. 10, 3 and Op. 32, 2. Töpfer was born in the late eighteeth century and negelected never his close relationship to the style of classicism. His major compositions are this Sonata, and the compendium "Choral-Studien" which contains a lot of monumental and also of charming Chorale Preludes. His large book about organ building became a standard work for the organ builders of the romantic periode. Töpfer was organist at the Stadtkirche St. Peter und Paul in Weimar. He was an organ-virtuoso and an organ expert of a high international reputation. Wolfram Syré, Orgel. Organ at Tholen (NL) 1832 van Dam (Hauptwerk, Voxus Organs).
Demo of the Castilian Organ in Budapest, built by AerisOrgona in 2016. Correction: the Bajoncillo in the Bass is basically a 4' Trumpet, not a 16' trumpet. Also, I skip over the wonderful Tapadillo (Gedackt 8') and the Violón (Rohrflöte 4') www.aerisorogna.hu Middle-Europe’s first Spanish baroque organ is our Castilian instrument in Budapest. After an intense investigating of quasi ten Iberian historical organs we started to make the exact planning. The organ of the Santa María church in Tordesillas (by Phelipe Urarte, 1716) served as a model for our instrument by its sound, technical construction, measures, materials and building technology. Urarte’s instrument was restored by one of the most acknowledged Spanish organbuilders in the historical organs’ reconstruction, Joaquín Lois, who is also the maker of our instrument’s reed-parts. Thus, not only a copy-instrument has been built in Hungary, but an optically also determining part of the organ, the horizontal reeds and the bass-side Trompeta Real halfregister are also represent an authentic piece of the especially rich tradition of the Castilian organbuilding. The 16 stops was built in one manual, bass-treble division, according to the era with ¼ comma meantoned temperature, on short octave (a’=415 Hz, on 21Co). By this solution we are able to registrate different sounding separately to the bass and to the discant. At the level of the organist’s knees sits the so-called rodillera, which is a laterally moving, knee-operated, stirrup-shaped lever permitted the reeds in facade switch on and off without taking the organist’s hands. The rodilleras at the organist’s feet have the same operating principle, these are for to select between the Corneta Real and Corneta de Eco and serves the top of the latter’s opening and closing. Three 5-rised bellows supplying the wind for the organ, set above the church’s suspended ceiling, for the really authentic sounding. Only some forged iron parts blewing somewhat about the style what pled by the instrument. The organ just seemingly equivalent with the strech of the church; it’s mechanic and it’s sound summons the 18th century, serves as a musical bridge between past and present, visible and invisible, God and man. #ywillemvantwillertbach It may well be that everything comes together in a combination of an instrument and a perfect composition by J. S. Bach. I think that is the case here with this Vox Humana 8' from the Hinsz organ in Kampen [NL]. This Vox Humana 8' sound is almost unearthly beautiful because of its extraordinarily lilting and melancholic tone. And that with the beautiful music of J. S. Bach. Have fun listening and watching. ENGLISH ORGAN The oldest pipework in the organ (especially the flutes 4′ and 2′ of the Bovenwerk) probably comes from Jan Morlet (1629). In 1676 Jan Slegel completed a new organ, using materials [by Jan Morlet (1629)] from the old organ. 1694-1712 Johan Duyschot maintenance. Albertus Anthoni Hinsz carried out work on the organ in the years 1741-1743: Hinsz manufactured a new organ case and renewed all wind channels, drawers, and mechanics. Registers were added and this organ became the largest Hinsz organ. 1788/1789 free pedal (8 stops) made by H.H. Freytag and F.C. Schnitger Jr. There was a Borstwerk of 4 voices, which could be played from the Bovenwerk keyboard. The Dulcian 8′ of the Rugwerk placed Freytag and F.C. Schnitger Jr. in the Borstwerk. A Fagot 16′ was placed on the vacant place in the Rugwerk. During the 19th century, Van Gruisen, Scheuer and Naber worked on the organ. 1866 Zwier van Dijk gave the Borstwerk its own keyboard and added registers. 1967-75 restoration by the Bakker & Timmenga organ factory, Leeuwarden. It was decided to maintain eight registers from about 1820/to 66. In 2000 the instrument was “revitalised” by the Orgelmakers Gebr. Reil. The seven wedge bellows are connected to the wind machine. Necessary repairs were made. National Organ Advisor, Rudi van Straten.
