Einige Elemente verbleiben in Andeutungen und können nicht unmittelbar einer oberflächlich geschlossenen Konzeption zugeordnet werden. Es ist besonders berührend zu erleben, wie zwei so junge Sängerpersönlichkeiten wie Christiane Gansch als Mélisandeund John Chest als Pelléas in ihrem intensiven Spiel und darstellerischer Hingabe Hauptakteure und Opfer der spezifischen Melancholie dieses Werkes sind. Die klare und feine Stimmgebung von Christine Gansch kontrastiert dabei wirkungsvoll mit dem erdigen Charakter der Tenorlage von John Chest. Großartig in seiner stimmlichen und darstellerischen Präsenz und Gestaltung Christopher Purves als Golaud, sowie Brindley Sherrat als Arkel. Ich habe einen neuen Lieblingsdirigent für mich gefunden: Massimo Zanetti. Wenn er im Graben steht, dann ist das Opernereignis garantiert!
