CONCERTO (FOR CELLO) IN D MAJOR by Giuseppe Tartini, performed in 4 parts by Rudolph Hindemith with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra circa early 1930s. These were recorded from a pair of Great Britain pressed Parlophone 78 rpm records from about 1930. As they are in amazing condition, they transferred extremely well. Enjoy!

Ludwig van Beethoven - Sonata No. 26 in E Flat Major Op. 81a [HQ] Piano Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer and pianist. He was born in 1770 in Vienna. Beethoven is acknowledged as one of the giants of classical music; he is occasionally referred to as one of the "three B’s” (along with Bach and Brahms) who epitomise that tradition. One of his masterpieces was “Moonlight Sonata” which consist of three parts. The full version of Moonlight Sonata is also available on this channel. Piano Sonata No. 26 in E-flat major, Op. 81a, known as the Les Adieux sonata, was written during the years 1809 and 1810. The title Les Adieux implies a programmatic nature. The French attack on Vienna, led by Napoléon Bonaparte in 1809, forced Beethoven's patron, Archduke Rudolph, to leave the city. Yet, there is some uncertainty about this nature of the piece — or at least, about the degree to which Beethoven wished this programmatic nature would be known. He titled the three movements "Lebewohl," "Abwesenheit," and "Wiedersehen," and reportedly regarded the French "Adieux" (said to whole assemblies or cities) as a poor translation of the feeling of the German "Lebewohl" (said heartfully to a single person) (Kolodin, 1975). Indeed, Beethoven wrote the syllables "Le-be-wohl" over the first three chords. Piano Classics was founded on February 1st 2017. Collins was born in Joliet, Illinois, into an Irish family – his father was from County Meath and his mother from Belfast. From age 14, he studied with Rudolph Ganz in Chicago, and in 1906 went with Ganz to Berlin, where he studied performance and composition at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik under Max Bruch and Engelbert Humperdinck. Upon graduation, he had a successful concert piano debut in Berlin. He returned to the United States in 1912 and toured with the contralto Ernestine Schumann-Heink. He was an assistant conductor with the Century Opera Company in New York City and with the Bayreuth Festival in Germany. During World War I, Collins served in the U.S. Army (88th Division of the Intelligence Unit in France) as an interpreter and entertained the troops as pianist. From Private he rose up to the rank of Lieutenant during the war. After the war he returned to Chicago and joined 1919 the faculty of Chicago Musical College as one of the principal piano teachers. Collins married a voice student, Frieda Mayer, whose father, Oscar, owned a meatpacking company and was well to do. Collins and his wife had four children namely Dorothy Louise, Marianna Louise, Louise Joan and Edward Joseph junior. Having married into a family of wealth, they lived in the Mayer residence on Sheridan Road in Chicago. He later joined the faculty of the American Conservatory of Music. He died in Chicago, Illinois in 1951.
