Alexander Goldenweiser +••.••(...)), began his studies with Vassili Prokunin before entering the Moscow Conservatory. There, he continued his piano studies with Pabst, and composition with Arensky, Taneyev and Ippolitov-Ivanov all of whom, with the exception of Pabst, had been students of Tchaikovsky. Among Goldenweisers fellow students were Scriabin, Rachmaninov and later, Medtner. (Rachmaninov dedicated his Suite No.2 for Two Pianos to Goldenweiser). After graduating (piano1895, composition, 1897) he returned to the Moscow Conservatory in 1900, beginning a long association with that institution as a professor of piano and composition. and later, director of the conservatory. Bryan Crimp describes Goldenweiser as the man who, with Konstantn Igumnov and Heinrich Neuhaus dominated Russian/Soviet piano tuition during the first half of the twentieth century. His students included Grigory Ginzburg, Samuel Feinberg, Tatiana Nikolayeva, Dmitri Bashkirov, Lazar Berman and the composer, Dmitri Kabalevsky
